Buy derma roller—a skin treatment that involves a handheld roller covered in tiny needles—is all the rage thanks to social media beauty vloggers, who have popularized the DIY version of micro-needling, a face-smoothing procedure typically performed in dermatologists’ offices. The derma roller has been shown to improve the appearance of facial scarring, hyperpigmentation, and sun damage by stimulating collagen production.
“When the roller is rolled over your face, the needles create tiny pathways,” says dermatologist Joshua Zeichner of Mount Sinai in New York City. You should also be sure to disinfect the roller after each use with alcohol or rubbing alcohol, and store it in its case to minimize bacteria buildup.
